VI. Summary

Kira’s mother died because of illness. Kira was left alone with nothing because he house is burned down as their ritual or tradition. According to her mother, her father died because the beast caught him during the hunt. All she had is Matt even though he’s very small to help her survive. She thought that she’ll just use the place of her house to build a cott but Vandara was very interested to the place because she’s planning to build a fen for the women’s tykes. They were planning to get rid off Kira to the fact that her leg is twisted and that she’ll just cost the village too much trouble. Kira stand up for herself and she didn’t let the women get rid off her so the case was brought to the Council of the Guardians.

Vandara defended herself while Kira can’t even speak. Vandara said things that hurt Kira and the good thing is that Kira didn’t mind all of it. She was not allowed to speak that time but she was able to choose one of the Guardians that can defend her. She chose Jamison. At the end of the case, Vandara get what she wanted while Kira will be staying to work. She will not be thrown but she’ll have her place.

Jamison helps her out. He showed her the new room while Matt brought the things that he has saved before the house was burned. She was happy that they were there. She also meets Thomas that is the same age as her. They became friends because their room is very near at each other.

Kira’s work is the dress of the Singer that needs to be prepared every year. Jamison told her that she needs to know how to make colors like her mother for the weaving of the dress. She was required to go to Annabella to learn so from then on, she goes there with matt and Branch. Sometimes, she would go there alone. Also, she’s thinking on ho to make the color blue. Her mother used to think on how to make one and now she’s interested.

Days passed, they met Jo. Kira found her at the locked room. Jo is a girl tyke singer and Thomas always heard her every night. They became friends while Kira continued working on the dress. Kira noticed that Matt is not showing up in the past few days so Thomas and her went out to look for him. They went to his house but Matt wasn’t there. Matt’s brother told them that he was searching a gift for his friends and he don’t know where. Kira felt lonely because she can’t do anything but wait for him until the Gathering day came. Kira had finished the dress and she’s also proud for Thomas and Jo for accomplishing their work. Surprisingly, Matt came and Kira was very happy to see him. He brought her presents. The first one is the plant for making blue and the second is her father, Christopher. She was very happy and she was glad that she met Matt. She had the time to talk to her father and she found out that Jamison stab him and that what he said about the beast is not true. Christopher is thankful for Matt that he will be the bond that’ll connect him to Kira because she chose to stay. Before going to the place where anyone will care for you, Christopher gave her daughter a gift of threads. Now, the blue gathered on her hands.

My reaction paper in the movie “Drumline”

The movie Drumline is very entertaining to me since I am a teenager. I can say that this movie motivates the youth to go forward on their dreams without considering anyone or anything a hindrance in fulfilling it. Being a movie, of course there are unrealistic aspects woven into the story so we can learn from it and that’s a great advantage of the movie. It is pleasing to know that the director used drums and music to portray human life because as I watch the movie, I know it to myself that most parts happen in the real life. The movie just wanted to remind us of our approaches in the trials of our life and just wanted to show us the disadvantages of being “yourself”.

Like Devon Miles, we have to do what he did, we have to think positive and let no one interfere you as you reach whatever your dream is. The first part of the movie shows the self-centeredness of Devon. He didn’t care about his band mate with the reason that he is not his band mate’s mother and that is a bad behavior if you want to be a successful person. We should care about others. We can’t be successful if we don’t involve others because in everything we do, all the people around us are affected.

Devon, being so disobedient to his coach is not also a good practice. We have the right to speak and fight what you want but sometimes we have to obey and listen. We are not always right but somehow we have to just listen and listen to learn. Our coach or preacher have something to do with our life, they help us in our future so we have to appreciate them.

I will also react to the part when the competitor fought with the A&T band because they can’t stand Devon’s skills with the drum. In competitions, there are each group’s strength and weaknesses. There are weak and there are strong. We don’t have to be angry at something you don’t have. In performing, we should just enjoy and do our best. Don’t think about the award and fame because it is not forever but think about the enjoyment and memories that you experienced is the great feeling that you can have and treasure.

People are not perfect, like what the movie have showed, Devon can’t read notes but he can learn by just observing the actual hands and by just counting the beat. In that case, we should let ourselves learn some things that we didn’t even try before. Just study and open your mind so you can learn.

Being friends with your enemy is putting away all the thorns in your heart. Devon befriends with his coach at the middle part that’s why he was able to learn how to understand what he doesn’t’ understand before. The two of them joined forces in teaching the band and they come up with a good strategy.

Patience is also a part to achieve goals. Like Devon, he did not give up. He tried and tried without any pessimistic thoughts. He started a new life. He changed his attitude that’s why he was back in the team again. Because of his creativity, he managed to teach the band a very unique and interesting performance that they have won the competition.

VI. Summary

Stanley was brought to Camp Green Lake. He was accused of stealing the shoes that has fallen from the sky and had suddenly hit him. He believes that his bad luck is from a curse of the family that was given by Madame Zeroni to Elya Yelnats. He met Mr. Sir and Mr. Pendanski. He belongs to the Group D with Armpit, X-ray, Magnet, Squid, Zigzag and Zero. His first experience in digging holes is not that okay until he was used to it. There’s a time when he found a fossil on his hole so he showed it to Mr. Pendanski as he was required to do but it didn’t seem so interesting. He experienced many things like he was given the nickname “caveman” and when he found a friend that is Zero. He also found a lipstick tube that belongs to Kate Barlow but he didn’t get the special treatment because the other boy from the group stole it.

Elya Yelnats was in love with a girl and Madame Zeroni helped him by giving him a pig to raise for the girl’s father. He carries the pig to the mountain until it got bigger and wider. He also promised to Madame Zeroni that he would carry her to the mountain in return or else his family would be cursed. Sad to say but he forgot to carry her because of the disappointment to the empty headed girl. Since that day, their family was cursed.

Stanley taught Zero how to read in exchange of digging. The other boys didn’t like the idea causing them to fight. The warden stops them. That’s also the time when Mr. Pendanski became very cruel to Stanley. Maybe because of the scratch made by the warden on his face. Because of ill treatment, Zero run away into the dessert because he hit the counselor with the use of the shovel. They didn’t try to catch him but they destroyed his record. Stanley looked for him by driving the truck into the hole to run away.

Another part is the love story of Katherine Barlow and Sam, a black and also called the onion man. Katherine kissed him and Trout Walker saw them. He led the burning of the schoolhouse and also killed Sam. That day, Katherine became a criminal, Kissin’ Kate Barlow. It will never rain again because of what happened. Years had pass, Trout and his wife abuse Kate to tell them where’s the treasure but she chose to be bitten by the yellow spotted lizard.

Stanley found Zero. He was alive because of the peaches that he had found on the boat. He was ill and weak but good thing is that Stanley was there to help him. They found onions and water that rub\ns uphill. Stanley carry Zero up to the mountain, God’s thumb. After that, they head toward the camp again. They dig and found a suitcase but yellow lizards started to surround them so they can’t move. Mr. Sir, Mr. Pendanski and the Warden saw them. They were still until the sun rises. Stanley’s lawyers suddenly arrived and they got the suitcase. He was release together with Zero. The other boys stayed there.

The curse was broken because Stanley was able to carry Zero, ancestor of Madame Zeroni who had given the curse.

Honestly, I’ve never tried cooking any recipe but sometimes I read recipes that caught my attention. I am going to share about what I learned today. It is about pies and pastry making. I learned that there are two types of pies: the one crust pie and the two crust pie.

The one crust pie is lining a pan pie with a thin layer of pastry dough and then bake. A cooked filling is poured into the shell and cooled. Sometimes, the feeing can be topped with meringue or whipped cream if desired. There is another way, it is to pour uncooked filling in the unbaked shell and bake them together. Another variation is to place the unbaked pastry dough on top of cooked or uncooked fruits, vegetables or meats in a deep dish instead of serving as a lining and then they are all baked together.

The two crust pie I when a thin layer of pastry dough which serves as the lining is filled up with a filling of one’s choice and covered with another thin layer of pastry dough which is sealed and fluted at the edge and baked.
